    The Astral Caring for Kids Radiothon nearly $21 million

    On Thursday, May 5, 2011, some 65 English-language Astral radio stations across Canada raised nearly $7 million on the third annual Astral national Day of Caring for Kids. This impressive sum brings the three-year total to nearly $21 million, making it the biggest radiothon in Canada. The event's success is due to the direct and indirect participation of over 1,000 members of the Astral family. The funds collected on behalf of some 20 children's hospitals and health care establishments across the country help improve the care they give to thousands of sick children and ensure that the doctors and nurses who treat them have access to the best available equipment.

    Osez le donner on behalf of the Breast Cancer Foundation

    On May 26, 2011 was held the Osez le donner (Bras for the Cause) -a solidarity event organized by RockDétente on behalf of the Québec Breast Cancer Foundation whose mission is to fund breast cancer research, promote health through education and awareness, and support people touched by breast cancer. During the four-week campaign, 165,250 bras were collected thanks to donations from RockDétente listeners. Wonderbra contributed $1 for every bra collected. They were donated to Renaissance, which offers low-priced clothing to people in need through Fripe-Prix, its chain of community boutiques. RockDétente salutes this great gesture of solidarity and hope. Since its creation in 1994, the Foundation has supported Québec's medical communityby funding research projects and support programs thank to the generosity of its partners such as RockDétente.
  • 24 Hours of Tremblant

    24 Hours of Tremblant

    Under the leadership of Astral, the 24 Hours of Tremblant raises funds on behalf of sick or underprivileged children. Preceded by the NRJ walk, which brought together dozens of walkers who relayed each other from Montréal to Mont-Tremblant, the winter event was held on December 10, 11, and 12, 2010.Thanks to the enthusiasm of skiers and fans alike, the Astral family—proudly represented by its celebrity hosts and properties, including MusiquePlus, NRJ, CHOM 97.7, and Virgin Radio 106.9 Ottawa—raised $130,000 on behalf of the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau Foundation, the Ottawa Senators Foundation, and the Tremblant Foundation.

    Le Grand défi Pierre Lavoie

    Being very keen on physical activities, fighting inactivity among young people, and raising funds for research on orphan diseases, Astral teamed up once again as media partner with the second annual Grand défi Pierre Lavoie held from June 18 to 20, 2010—a 1,000km marathon cycling event between Saguenay and Montréal. In addition to their association with the cycling tour, several NRJ network radio stations partnered with a major Québec-wide school tour to promote physical activity to young people and raise their awareness about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle as early as possible in life.

    RockDétente Radiodon for the Québec Breakfast Club

    On November 25, 2010, the eleventh annual RockDétente Radiodon event was held on behalf of the Québec Breakfast Club, created over 15 years ago. This year, RockDétente's 10 network stations across the province collected a record sum of nearly $3.3 million. Thanks in part to Astral's active involvement, the organization will open 30 new clubs and feed 1,800 more kids than last year. There are currently 245 clubs, but more are needed to meet the needs of children in 850 schools located in low-income neighbourhoods. Events like the Radiodon are important to sustain the Québec Breakfast Club's efforts.

    Fondation OLO

    For the past 17 years, Super Écran has supported the cause of the Fondation OLO, which helps underprivileged pregnant women by giving them eggs, milk, orange juice, and vitamin and mineral supplements. Over the years, Super Écran has sponsored the Show Super Écran OLO. In 2010, the partnership became a sponsorship for the production of short videos to present the Fondation OLO at various events, including the annual fundraising dinner.

    Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation

    Disney Junior (previously known as PHD Télé) had barely launched when it officially became the partner of the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation for the Des Marmots en santé contest to collect votes on children's words submitted by participants online. For each vote collected, a dollar was donated by Disney Junior to the Foundation in order to raise $25,000. During summer 2010, Disney Junior also invited Mickey and Minnie to visit sick children at the hospital.
  • Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada

    Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada

    Everyone knows someone who suffers from this terrible disease that affects men, women and children in Canada. Since 2008, Astral has provided the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada with three million dollars in visibility for a national awareness and fundraising campaign, the biggest in the Society's history. By offering visibility on our wide range of platforms—television, radio, out-of-home and websites—we help them reach their fundraising goal and support researchers working to uncover the cause and treatment of MS so that the disease can finally be beaten.
