Concrete and sustainable environmental actions
The environmental conscience that drives us and our concern for the well-being of future generations urge us to make ecological considerations a key element of our initiatives at Astral.
This same concern inspires us to implement environmental measures by changing business practices and making concrete gestures every day.
These actions include recycling, reducing paper use for external communications and eliminating its use altogether for internal communications, organizing awareness-raising activities for Earth Day, and choosing videoconferencing over business travel whenever possible. Our commitment to the environment also takes the form of a number of specific initiatives.

We're Going Green in Toronto
Astral's Toronto team went green several years ago. Thanks to a partnership with Bullfrog Power, the operations of our Radio and Out-of-Home divisions are powered solely by Environment Canada-certified low impact energy sources. The conversion to green electricity includes Astral's three Toronto stations, 97.3 EZ Rock, Virgin Radio 999 and NEWSTALK1010. In addition, Bullfrog Power provides the power to light every Astral Out-of-Home advertising panel and transit shelter in Toronto - an energy savings of 40%!

Digital Advertising Network
In 2009-2010, Astral deployed the first national Digital outdoor network that today totals over 40 faces in Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver. These high-tech faces are equipped with energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LED) whose levels of light intensity are lower than those of conventional billboards, thus offering advertisers a green alternative. Moreover, these faces can feature rotating messages from six different advertisers, thus optimizing the infrastructures in place to meet the needs of advertisers.

Green broadcasting
Our television channels and radio stations reach millions of Canadians each week. Our extensive reach allows us to raise public awareness about the environment. It's notably the case with Canal Vie, which airs the Canadian series Les plus belles maisons vertes (The Most Beautiful Green Homes). The show demonstrates that environmental protection and luxury can coexist under the same roof. From Toronto to Texas and from Germany to Japan, the most innovative environment protection measures were applied to these homes located in breathtaking surroundings. Proof that one doesn't have to give up comfort to be green!
