Ian Greenberg
President and Chief Executive Officer
Ian Greenberg’s
Biography

Ian Greenberg is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Astral Media Inc., one of Canada’s most dynamic and best-performing media companies with a strong presence in the country’s fastest-growing media platforms: specialty- and pay-TV, radio, outdoor advertising and interactive media.

Born in Montréal in 1942, he is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Ian Greenberg is one of four brothers who founded Astral Media almost 50 years ago. Beginning as a specialty photographic business, Astral Media evolved under his leadership to become a pure-play media company.

Since Mr. Greenberg was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Astral Media in 1996, the company has an ongoing track record of over 13 consecutive years of profitable growth, achieved through a combination of financial discipline, thoughtful planning and rigorous operational practices.

Today, with 2,800 employees, Astral Media is Canada’s largest operator of English and French specialty and pay television services, involved in 20 licensed properties; the country’s largest radio broadcaster with 83 stations in 45 cities across Canada, as well as a leader in innovative outdoor advertising with state-of-the-art street furniture and nearly 8,000 faces in Canada’s three largest markets: Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. The company also owns and operates over 100 websites, which attract millions of unique visitors each month.

Mr. Greenberg has surrounded himself with a team of highly skilled professionals that share the same values of integrity and creativity, and a genuine passion to perform. Astral Media’s past, present and future successes rest upon the formulation and mobilization of these powerful fundamental values that bond its employees.

Active in supporting a number of industry and charitable associations, Mr. Greenberg and his brothers were awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award in 1993. In 2007, Mr. Greenberg received the prestigious Ted Rogers and Velma Rogers Graham Award for his unique contribution to the Canadian broadcasting system. In 2008, he was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB). He is currently a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, a governor of the Banff Television Festival and Montréal’s Jewish General Hospital. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cineplex Entertainment LP.

Mr. Greenberg and his wife Linda reside in Montréal. They have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
